The Ohio & Erie Canalway Association funded the projects through its Strategic Initiative Program, a competitive grant program that funds organizations and political subdivisions that enhance the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area—which extends 110 miles from Cleveland to New Philadelphia.

A diverse array of organizations will receive funding to support the initiatives below.

- Cleveland History Days 2022 Season, $7,500

• Historic Gateway Neighborhood: Take a Hike 2023 Season, $15,000

• Lake View Cemetery Foundation: The James A. Garfield Memorial Murals Restoration, $10,000

• Land Studio, Inc.: Riverview Tower and Ohio City Farm Public Space Masterplan, $10,000

• Warehouse District, Inc.: Seth Pease & Witness Tree Public Space Project, $4,000

Summit County:

• City of Akron: Rubber City Heritage Trail Phase 2, $25,000

• Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition: Summit Lake North Shore Design Plan, $25,000

• Summit Metro Parks: Towpath Trail Bridge Replacement (Barberton), $25,000

 Stark County:

• Stark Parks: Crystal Springs Trailhead Improvements, $25,000

Tuscarawas County:

• Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition: New Philadelphia Trail Design, $14,000

• Tusc Parks: Towpath Trail Design – “Kimble Trail” – Final Design Phase, $10,000
